Thembi Mtshali-Jones, Leleti Khumalo Receive Lifetime Achievement Honours

Veteran actresses Thembi Mtshali-Jones and Leleti Khumalo were celebrated with illustrious accolades at the second annual Golden Elephant Lifetime Achievement Awards on Wednesday, 28 August.

The ceremony – which took place at the Market Theatre in Newtown, Johannesburg, Gauteng – recognised both Mtshali-Jones and Khumalo with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

A renowned actress and singer, Mtshali-Jones is known for her roles in various television shows, films and plays such as “Stokvel”, “Sgudi ‘Snaysi”, “Konfetti” and “Have You Seen Zandile?”

“I feel so honoured by this award,” the 74-year-old commented. “It is so special to me. This has been a long journey for me when I started in this business in the seventies. It’s a recognition of our years of dedication to the arts, and we hope to continue inspiring others through our work.”

Khumalo featured in films like “Yesterday” and “Invictus”, and she portrayed the title character in the 1988 stage play “Sarafina!”, along with its 1992 film adaptation. Additionally, she appeared in local series such as “Imbewu” and “Uzalo.”

“We are humbled by this prestigious award and thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the creative industry,” the 54-year-old remarked. “This recognition motivates us to keep pushing boundaries and telling meaningful stories through our art.”
